• Before You Enhance: Detox

image1There is a wide range of reasons people commonly detox. It may be that you want to shed some holiday weight with a detox diet, reverse the effects of an unhealthy habit such as drinking or smoking, or you are simply trying to stay healthy while living in a sometimes polluted and toxic environment. Whatever your reason, we’ll give some examples of simple things you can do at home to get you started.

Detoxification or “detox” for short can refer to several different processes used to accomplish different goals. By it’s general definition, it’s the process of removing toxic substances from a living organism, including the human body. There are differing opinions on if detoxing is really effective in removing toxins from your body. Scientifically, it may be impossible to know how effective different detox programs are at doing just that. In our opinion, as long as you find a program that uses natural ingredients and isn’t overly extreme for your body, the potential benefits can greatly outweigh any temporary discomfort you may experience. These benefits include: liver, kidney, gastrointestinal and blood purification; enhancement of the immune system; enhancement of the hormonal system; and reduction of the body’s dependency on sugar, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol and other addictive substances.

Before choosing a detox program, we’d recommend that you first define what you want to gain and how much commitment you can realistically make to the program. One way to make defining the goal a bit easier is to think of the detox as a way to give your body a break from any unnatural intake and to restore your body’s natural functions. Additionally, detoxing could be a great way to cleanse your system before starting a supplement program to enhance the development of your bust. During your detox, remember to pay close attention to what your body is telling you. If you gain only one thing, it could be that you know the way your body functions a little bit better.

This is a ancient oral health technique that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for thousands of years. Some studies have shown that this simple process can help eliminate yucky mouth germs that can cause gingivitis, plaque and bad breath. The theory here is that the germs if your mouth are mostly microorganisms that consist of a single cell that naturally adhere to oil when in contact. So how is it done? Follow these instructions and tips to get the quick and easy of oil pulling.

    • Use a tablespoon of coconut oil. Coconut oil has the added benefit of having lauric acid, which is well-known to be a natural anti-microbial.
    • Before putting anything in your mouth, including drinking water or brushing your teeth, swish the coconut oil in your mouth for 20 minutes.
    • Don’t swallow. 20 minutes can be a long time. Work oil pulling into your daily morning routine and distract yourself so that the 20 minutes goes by faster.
    • Spit, but not into your sink. Coconut oil has different consistencies in different temperatures and can easily create a nasty clog.
    • Don’t forget to brush. Oil pulling can have great dental benefits, but is recommended to be used as a supplement to your regular morning flossing and brushing.

First start your day off by drinking a cup of hot water with the juice from half of a lemon added (approximately 3-4 tablespoons). Doing this will help to stimulate the liver. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Some suggest you should drink at least half an ounce for every pound you weigh. In other words, divide your weight by half then drink that many ounces. You should drink a bit more than this if you regularly consume a lot of caffeine, due to the fact that it is a diuretic. Try adding lemon to the water you drink throughout the day to assist in the cleansing process. Another benefit of drinking plenty of water will be to flush out your kidneys.
